Cashew Shell Liquid (CNSL) is a versatile by-product obtained from the Cashew Processing Plant. The Cashew Shell is the outer shell of the Cashew, which is part of the Cashew Fruit along with the Cashew Apple. This shell contains a viscous liquid, which is released when steaming raw cashews. This cashew nut liquid is used to produce phenol after undergoing decarbylation.
CNSL resins have been used for many years in the manufacture of friction materials, contributing to the bonding of Components as well as friction enhancers in the form of dust obtained from the cured resin. The shell of the nut is about 1/8 inch thick. Cashew nut shell liquid is the inner liquid of the cashew nut. Natural CNSL is a mixture of phenolic compounds with fatty side chains and they are 70% anacardic acid, 5% cardonal and 18% cardol. CNSL is usually processed at high temperatures, which reduces anacardic acid carboxylates, yielding cardonal, additional distillation of CNSL rmeoves cardol leaves cardonal as the main ingredient in CNSL
Different types of machinery are required to set up an efficient Cashew Shell Liquid (CNSL) Plant
CASHEW KEEPING OIL EXCESSING MACHINE
This is an unauthorized extraction process done by a Mixer, where the cashew nut shell is brought through an elevator to a mining machine, which is crushed under force to release the liquid inside with strong force and the cashew nut cake is decanted. oil is removed at the other end. This shell liquid is highly toxic, contains many impurities and even sulfur. It needs to be settled so that the impurities are collected at the bottom and the liquid can be made ready for the next process.
